cruisesWe must never forget that the reason we sail is to enjoy ourselves and the reason we undertake training courses is to make the sailing both safer and more enjoyable.
The club arrange a variety of cruises of varying duration. Some are only 2 days to enable a weekend away, some are 5 or 7 days to enable members to get away from the familiar waters of the Solent, whilst others are extended cruises to such places as the Isles of Scilly, the Channel Islands, the Netherlands or France.

All cruises are skippered by a commercially qualified skipper and the emphasis is on making the sailing fun. Places are available for members, family and friends although we do make a small additional charge for guests who are not family. No previous sailing experience is required, although if you’ve not sailed before it’s probably better to start off with one of the shorter trips.
These are an ideal way to build up your mileage and experience whilst having a good time.

The programme for 2018 is published below and bookings can be taken from 1st November 2017.  You don’t have to wait until the AGM.

To make a booking, first telephone the club line 020 8643 4292 to ensure availability and then confirm your place with a cruise booking form or online booking and payment.

Unless otherwise stated the price includes the cost of the yacht and skipper only. Food, fuel, moorings and travel will be at the crew expense.

Cruising Schedule 2018

Early Bird Cruise

Venue: Solent
Dates: 16th to 18th March
Cost: £120
Is it For You? – This is an opportunity to shake off the cobwebs of the winter and get out onto the water nice and early before the crowds arrive.  No previous sailing experience is necessary.

Vice Commodores Rally

Venue: Solent
Dates: Awaits
Cost: £TBC

Is it For You? – this is one of our key club events during the year and is an opportunity for members and those with their own boats to get together for a great sociable weekend.  Mainly Solent based and final details are awaiting confirmation but we usually host a BBQ on the Friday and a crew meal at HMS Hornet on the Saturday. No previous experience is necessary. Further information will be made available closer to the date.

Newcomers Cruise

Venue: Solent
Dates:18th to 20th May
Cost: £120

Is it For You? – This is an ideal opportunity for those with little or no experience to get out on the water under the care of an experienced instructor but without lots of other experienced crew aboard which to some is a bit inhibiting.  It will be gentle sailing well within your comfort zone and is usually a great time.  At the end of the day, it will be what you make of it.  No previous experience is necessary.

Jurassic Cruise

Venue: South Coast
Dates: 15th to 22nd June
Cost: £420

Is it For You? – this is a relaxing cruise along the south coast of England and a chance to enjoy the fantastic scenery of rocks and hills to the west of the Solent.  A mixture of passage making and relaxed sailing should suit a broad cross section of sailors and also provide great experience for those who want to get out of the Solent and gain further experience. Some previous experience would be useful but not essential.

Bastille and Channel Islands

Venue: As title
Dates: 8th to 16th July
Cost: £420

Is it For You? – This is our flagship cruise of the year.  Subject to weather and other constraining factors the plan is to cross the Channel to partake of the Bastille Day celebrations and show the French how to really party.  A visit to the lovely Channel Islands is highly likely with a return across the Channel to round things off.  Some experience is recommended for this cruise.

Cowes Fireworks

Venue: As title
Dates: 10th to 11th August
Cost: £85

Is it For You? – Another good excuse to get out on the water for some summer sunshine (hopefully) with a trip to Cowes to see the firework display which has traditionally marked the end of Cowes Week.  No previous experience necessary.

Bournemouth Air Show

Venue: Poole Bay
Dates: 31st August to 2nd September
Cost: £165

Is it For You? – This is a short 2 day cruise with an opportunity to get out of the Solent and experience the thrill from one of the leading air shows. The itinerary will be relaxing with the emphasis on ensuring that everyone has a good time.  No previous experience is necessary.

Newcomers Cruise

Venue: Solent
Dates:14th to 16th September

Gunwharf Fireworks – Laying Up Cruise

Venue: Solent
Dates: TBC November
Cost: £120

Is it For You? – For most this is the last sailing opportunity for the year and it a great chance to do some sailing and avoid the crowded harbours and marinas.  No previous experience is necessary.
