SRC VHF RadioOnline Course

The Short-Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law for anyone using fixed or handheld marine radio equipment and once complete the qualification lasts a lifetime.

It is also a requirement for club members when chartering the Yachts and Rib.

A highly recommended course and essential for those who hold or are considering Day Skipper or L2 Powerboat Qualifications.

The Online Course

Once you call the clubline and book the course with us, you will be issued a personal login and password.  We will also send you a course pack which includes the RYA SRC VHF handbook.

You are then free to login to the RYA Interactive website and complete the course in your own time. Once you have completed all the learning modules there is a Pre-exam knowledge check that you must pass.

Upon successful completion of the knowledge check you will be able to print off your course completion certificate, which you must take with you when you do the practical assessment along with a passport sized photograph.

No previous knowledge or experience is necessary and both online and telephone support is available to all students taking the online course.

Assessment

A short assessment by one of our experienced club SRC instructors is held at either a central London location or at the Broadway Base in Hamble.

· Navtex, SART’s and EPIRB’s

If you still want a classroom course then let us know and if there is sufficient demand we will arrange a date but we recommend the online teaching.

    This two day practical course is entirely boat based. There is no fixed route, and passage planning based on weather forecasts will form part of
    the course. You can expect to explore a variety of locations in and around the Solent and
    experience anchoring up, berthing in a marina and picking up a mooring buoy.
