Welcome to the Metropolitan Police Sailing Club

The Metropolitan Police Sailing Club has been in existence for nearly 50 years. Sailing with the MPSC is a very sociable activity and is inexpensive. On the more serious side, it can train and guide you from a complete novice to a fully qualified Yachtmaster Ocean using it’s own in house highly skilled and highly motivated team of instructors.

Yachts

The club owns three yachts

  • ‘Sapphire of Broadway’ – a 34ft Hallberg Rassy
  • ‘Blue Spirit of Broadway’ – a 34 ft Hallberg Rassy
  • ‘Pride of Broadway’ a 34ft Hallberg Rassy 342

All three yachts are equipped to a high standard including radar, GPS/chartplotter, AIS receiver (Pride only), heating and shorepower as well as the necessary safety equipment such as liferaft, auto inflate lifejackets and harnesses, flares and much more. They comply fully with the Codes of Practice for Small Commercial Vessels.

They are used for training and skippered cruises, but are also available for private charter to suitably qualified members.

The Broadway Centre

This is our base of operations and is located at Mercury Yacht Harbour on the River Hamble near Southampton. The centre includes a clubhouse/crew room, a fully equipped classroom for teaching shorebased courses, secure storage for equipment, some workshop facilities and dinghy storage within a fenced compound.

Mercury Yacht Harbour is in Satchell Lane, Hamble which is easily accessible from Junction 8 of the M27. The marina has a Bar/Restaurant, a Chandlers, excellent showers and laundry facilities and close by is a 24 hour Tesco ideal for the purchase of supplies for your sailing trip. Hamble Village also has excellent Pubs and Restaurants.

Yacht Charter

All the club yachts are available for private charter to members at extremely reasonable prices. Where members don’t have the necessary qualifications, we can often provide details of skippers who are willing to help. Full details of prices, availability and other information are shown on the ‘yacht charter’ page.

Training Courses

The club is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to run practical and shorebased theory courses at every level enabling members to progress from novice to Yachtmaster Ocean. Additional training modules designed by the club to supplement the RYA scheme are also available.

Full details of courses for 2017 are available on the appropriate practical or shorebased ‘courses’ page.

Cruises and Social Events

As well as our training and charter activities the club organise many other sailing activities and other social events. These are ideal for those less experienced or for those who are not interested or qualified to skipper themselves. They also provide wonderful opportunities to involve family or friends as well as meeting other club members and visit places of interest.

Details of the 2017 programme can be found on the ‘Cruises’ page.

Dinghy Sailing

The club has an active group of racers, both inshore and offshore and we also organise regular family days.

See the ‘Dinghy Activities’ section for further details.

Powerboat Section

The club is a recognised RYA Powerboat Training School offering courses from Level 1, suitable for a beginner, to Advanced which would suit those with considerable powerboat experience. Courses are run on our own 6.5m RIB which is fully equipped for the purpose. It is also available for private charter to members with a level 2 certificate. Full details are available on the ‘Powerboat Charter’ and ‘Powerboat Courses’ pages.
