The two day RYA Start Yachting is an introductory course to sailing for complete beginners, with the added benefit of an RYA Certificate at the end.
It’s a great course to establish whether or not you wish to take up the pastime without investing too much time and money.
You’ll be welcomed onboard the club yacht by one of our club instructors. Under their guidance you’ll be shown how to steer the yacht, handle sails, rope work & how to stay safe onboard.
Most importantly, you’ll also have great fun!
If you wish to continue further into the RYA Sail Cruising Scheme then you can sign up to the 3 day RYA Competent Crew course to receive your competent crew certificate.
1700 Friday until approximately 1600 Sunday
Crews will meet and finish at the Broadway base, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Hamble.

RYA Competent Crew Course, (3 day) Members who complete their RYA Start Yachting Course can then join the 3 day RYA Competent Crew course to receive your competent crew certificate.
Course Duration: 2 Days (weekend)
Previous Experience Required: None
Ability After Course: A basic knowledge and ability to crew a sailing yacht.
Number of members: 1 – 4
Having a medical condition need not necessarily prevent you from taking a full part in the course but the Club Principal must be aware of any potential problems.
If you are in any doubt about your fitness to take part in a course, speak to us on the clubline prior to your course.
By completing the course booking form you make the following declarations and undertakings:-
I hereby declare that I have recorded below details of any medical condition which may affect my fitness to participate in the course and in particular I have included details where I suffer from asthma/bronchitis, angina or heart condition, fits, fainting or blackouts, severe headaches, diabetes, travel sickness, allergies to medication or other allergies.
I undertake to inform the Metropolitan Police Sailing Club Ltd and the course instructor of any relevant medical condition which may become apparent between now and the start of the course, and of any medication I am taking.
I have included below details of any dietary requirements and any allergies, including allergies to food and medication.
