This is an advanced seven day on board intensive course. The aim is to hone the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night.
The RYA Yachtmaster qualification is recognised and respected around the world & is the ultimate aim of many skippers, both professional and recreational.
This is designed to prepare you for examination by an independent RYA examiner for the award of a DoT certificate for Yachtmaster Offshore.
7 day course
1700 Sunday until approximately 1600 the following Sunday
Crews will meet and finish at the Broadway base, Mercury Yacht Harbour, Hamble
• Skippering skills
• Boat handling
• General seamanship
• Safety awareness
• Knowledge of the IRPCS (collision regulations)
• Meteorology and signals
You will be set tasks to demonstrate your ability and may also be asked questions on any part of the syllabus for all practical and shorebased courses up to Yachtmaster™ Coastal level.
All food, mooring fees, wet weather gear and accommodation on board the yacht.

Course Duration: 7 Days, (5 day prep course + 2 Day RYA/MCA Exam)
Previous Experience Required: 50 days, 2,500 miles including at least 5 passages over 60 miles measured along the rhumb line from the port of departure to the destination, acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved overnight passages. 5 days experience as skipper.
Ability After Course: Preparation for the RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence. Advanced skippering techniques, close quarters handling under both power and sail, navigation and pilotage by day and night, man overboard recovery and overall yacht management skills.
Cost: £525 + £224 RYA exam fee

Having a medical condition need not necessarily prevent you from taking a full part in the course but the Club Principal must be aware of any potential problems.
If you are in any doubt about your fitness to take part in a course, speak to us on the clubline prior to your course.

I hereby declare that I have recorded below details of any medical condition which may affect my fitness to participate in the course and in particular I have included details where I suffer from asthma/bronchitis, angina or heart condition, fits, fainting or blackouts, severe headaches, diabetes, travel sickness, allergies to medication or other allergies.
I undertake to inform the Metropolitan Police Sailing Club Ltd and the course instructor of any relevant medical condition which may become apparent between now and the start of the course, and of any medication I am taking.
